Dhoni Review System: MSD Stuns CSK Bowler After Accurate DRS Call During CSK Vs MI

MS Dhoni continues to make surreally accurate calls to review on-field decisions. During the IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on Sunday, the legendary cricketer showed why Decision Review System (DRS) is sometimes playfully referred to as Dhoni Review System.

During the 18th over of MI innings, CSK right-arm pacer Nathan Ellis struck Mitchell Santner on the pads and let out a huge appeal for LBW. The on-field umpire though turned it down and quickly the bowler turned to Dhoni who was more than happy to gesture to his captain Ruturaj Gaikwad to make the ‘T’ signal.

Keeping faith in the veteran cricketer’s judgement, Gaikwad asked to review the not out decision. And the ball-tracker agreed with Dhoni’s assessment showing predicting the ball to hit the middle stump.

Ellis was pleasantly surprised and celebrated the dismissal with the former CSK captain while showing his appreciation.

Former international umpire Anil Chaudhary last year during a podcast praised Dhoni for his consistency with DRS and said while it’s hard to be correct every time (with DRS calls), the wicketkeeper is close to accuracy.

“That’s not the case always (Dhoni being right), sometimes it’s the other way around but he’s close to accuracy. He has a lot of idea about the game," Chaudhary told Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel.

Wicketkeeper has got the best spot to keep an eye, they’re still and can follow the ball’s trajectory. In fact, best umpires sometimes base their decisions on the movement of wicketkeepers because they follow the ball," he added.

Chaudhary quipped that Dhoni can be a very good umpire provided if he’s ready to stand inside the field for several hours.
