The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced fresh central contracts for Indian women‘s international cricketers for the 2024-25 season on Monday (March 24). While the first two pay grades — Grade A and Grade B — saw only one change, the final Grade C saw five players replaced. The total pool has come down to 16, from the last official number of 17.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, vice-captain and star opener Smriti Mandhana and all-rounder Deepti Sharma were retained at Grade A. In Grade B, Renuka Thakur, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh and Shafali Verma continued as well, though bowler Rajeshwari Gaekwad no longer found a place.

It needs to be noted that the BCCI didn’t officially announce their central contracts for the 2023-24 season. The last list of centrally contracted players mentioned on the board’s official website is from 2022-23.
The three grades describe the different salaries for players. The BCCI has did not mention any pay change in their press release. In the last official announcement, the women players in Grade A were awarded Rs 50 lakh each, Rs 30 lakh for Grade B, and Rs 10 lakh for Grade C. Meanwhile, the men’s annual contracts are divided as Grade A+ – Rs 7 crore, Grade A – Rs 5 crore, Grade B – Rs 3 crore, and Grade C – Rs 1 crore.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Annual Player Contracts for Team India (Senior Women) for the 2024-25 season (October 1st, 2024 to September 30th, 2025)," the release mentioned.
On the other hand, the BCCI has reportedly not yet begun discussions about the men’s contracts for the 2024-25 season. The last season’s contracts saw major changes and controversy when Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer couldn’t find a place, apparently due to their failure to feature in domestic matches during international breaks.
“We have had some deliberation on the women’s central contracts but the men’s contracts is not on the agenda in the near future," Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, was quoted as saying by Sportstar last Thursday (March 20).
