How Can KKR Qualify For IPL 2025 Playoffs After Rain Washout Against PBKS?
With 5 games to go and only 7 points on board, we analyse how KKR can still make it to the IPL 2025 playoffs.

Undoing the streak of highly competitive contests between the two teams, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)’s home clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) was washed out by rain and bad weather at the Eden Gardens on Saturday (April 26). And although it’s their first point in three matches, it is yet another big jolt to their hopes of making the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL)’s 2025 season.
KKR now has seven points from nine matches this tournament and only have five group-stage games to fight in. This means that every match from now on is a do-or-die for them.

16 points are usually enough to qualify in the top four without letting Net Run Rate differences come into play. KKR can get there with four wins and another no-result, and hence, their aim should be to win all five matches and get to 17, which should see them through.
If they lose one and win the remaining four, they’ll get to 15 points, which will make them dependent on teams like PBKS, Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants (who are on 10-11) points losing some of their games to make space at the third and fourth spots.
Talking about PBKS, despite sharing a point here, they still have a comfortable path ahead. Unless they fumble multiple matches, they would be backing themselves to win three of the next five to get to 17 points. Four wins from the five would all but guarantee them a seat in the playoffs.
KKR’s remaining matches in IPL 2025
KKR have reasons to have one last ray of hope about their chances. Their next five matches aren’t the easiest but three are against teams placed at the bottom of the table: Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. While their last match is against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) who haven’t been great at home and lost there to KKR last season.
This makes KKR’s next match, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, against the second-placed Delhi Capitals on April 29 a must-win.
