Punjab Kings Season Preview IPL 2025: Perennial underachievers Punjab Kings will look to end their 18-year-long wait for a maiden IPL title when the latest season gets underway. The Punjab-based team is one of the three franchises that have been in the competition since the inception of the tournament but a title has remained elusive.
Star India batter Shreyas Iyer will lead Punjab in IPL 2025, having been bought for a whopping Rs 26.75 crore in the mega auction. The team features some big names like Arshdeep Singh (Rs 18 crore), Yuzvendra Chahal (Rs 18 crore) and Marcus Stoinis (Rs 11 crore) with a host of other Indian and overseas talents in the fray.

In the two-day IPL 2025 mega auction that took place in Jeddah, Punjab bagged the services of Australia allrounder Glenn Maxwell, Punjab batter Nehal Wadhera and left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar and Karnataka medium-pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak to strengthen their team.
The most notable change comes in the form of a new captain at the helm, Iyer. His captaincy qualities and proven record as a middle-order anchor make him the ideal choice to lead Punjab’s IPL 2025 campaign.
Iyer’s presence in the batting lineup adds stability, while his capability to be a rock and accelerate as well will be important for the side.
Punjab chose to hit the reset button by retaining just two players from IPL 2024, wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh and allrounder Shashank Singh.
In the bowling department, Punjab boast of one of the most well-balanced attacks in IPL 2025.
Punjab will open their campaign against the Gujarat Titans on March 25 and then take on the Lucknow Super Giants. Punjab’s first home match of IPL 2025 is scheduled against the Rajasthan Royals on Saturday, April 5.
How Punjab fared in IPL 2024
Punjab played under the split captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan and Sam Curran last season but could just manage to win five out of 14 games in the league stage. With 10 points, Punjab finished in the ninth position on the points table.
