Last year, Hyderabad played Rajasthan in two matches and on both occasions, the former came up trumps.
The two teams played just once against each other in the league stage, when Hyderabad won the match by just one run. Batting first, SRH posted a whopping 201/3, led by a 58-run knock from Travis Head, Nitish Reddy’s 42-ball 76 and Heinrich Klaasen’s 19-ball 42.
Chasing the massive target, Rajasthan were reduced to 1/2 in the first over as they looked down and out early on. But Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag then added 134 runs for the third wicket before the former was dismissed by T Natarajan in the 14th over.
Wickets kept tumbling from there on and with 13 runs needed off the final over, Rovman Powell brought the equation down to 6 off 3. With two runs needed off the last ball, the Windies batter was trapped LBW by Bhuvneshwar Kumar as Hyderabad won just by one run.
The Qualifier 2 encounter was a one-sided affair though. SRH batted first yet again and posted 175, riding on a half-century from Klaasen. Chasing the target, Tom Kohler-Cadmore was dismissed in the fourth over, before Jaiswal and Samson added 41 runs for the second wicket.
Rajasthan were soon reduced to 92/6 before Dhruv Jurel and Rovman Powell added 32 runs for the seventh wicket. But after the latter was dismissed in the 18th over by Natarajan, Rajasthan could just manage 139, losing by 36 runs.
Both RR and SRH have been deprived of titles for a while now. While Rajasthan’s only triumph came in 2008, Hyderabad too won once in 2016 and since then, it has been a barren run.
RR vs SRH: Head-to-head record
