“I want to thank the MI franchise for giving me this opportunity to play the match. I never thought in my life I would play with these all players. I am really happy. The team could’ve won. Thanks so much especially to our captain, Surya bhai was very supportive," he shared.
The left-arm wrist-spinner proved to be a nuisance for the CSK batters as he removed the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda to give MI a chance to defend their total.
The spinner from Kerala was handed an unexpected debut and took his chance with both hands, providing the boost from the spin front in Chennai.
Despite his efforts, MI ended up losing the game with four wickets and five balls to spare. Nonetheless, Puthur’s efforts with the ball was a big positive and the franchise could bank on his talent for the coming season.
MI was able to score only 155 runs as Noor Ahmad ran riot, taking four wickets for just 18 runs and Khaleel Ahmed took 3/29 to plug the runs from the Suryakumar Yadav-led side. Despite the absence of big stars like Hardik Pandya (due to suspension) and Jasprit Bumrah (injury), MI put in a good fight taking the game to the final over.
The fifties from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra ensured that CSK began the new campaign with a win. Mumbai will be back in action for their second game of the season, another away game against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 29 (Saturday).
Puthur will be banking on getting more chances with MI after his tremendous display on debut and hopes that he can have a memorable campaign.
