Why Chennai Super Kings Players Wore Black Armbands Against Mumbai Indians?
Chennai Super Kings players took the field wearing black armbands during their IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday night.

Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings players took the field against Mumbai Indians wearing black armbands in their second meeting of the season. The contest, held at the Wankhede Stadium, saw MI cruise to a dominant nine-wicket win and thus exact revenge of their defeat to CSK earlier in IPL 2025.
There hasn’t been any official statement from CSK explaining the reason why their players wore black armbands but according to Sportstar, it was to mourn the passing away the father of teammate Devon Conway.

Conway, who hails from New Zealand, has been part of CSK since 2022 and was member of their title winning squad in 2022. Opener Rohit Sharma returned to form after a poor first half of the season as he belted an unbeaten 76 off 45 with the help of four fours and six sixes. Suryakumar Yadav also scored a blistering fifty, hitting 68 not out off just 30 deliveries.

Whil making it to the playoffs remains a prime concern, CSK captain MS Dhoni is already thinking about the next season. “You don’t want too many players getting changed, what will be important is to try and qualify (for playoffs), but if not get a secured 11 for next year and come back strong," he said during a post-match chat with the broadcasters.
