'Will I Get This One': Badani Narrates How Karun Nair Nagged His Way Into The XI
Karun Nair pummeled 89 against the Mumbai Indians in a chase of a massive 205.

Delhi Capitals assistant coach Hemang Badani lauded Karun Nair after his stunning knock against the Mumbai Indians, stating how the latter scored ‘just’ nine hundreds this season and was itching for an opportunity before it came, and he proved his mettle in the shortest format.
After setting the Vijay Hazare Trophy on fire with his run-scoring spree and refusing to slow down in the Ranji Trophy, Nair is now upping the ante in IPL 2025 as well, a tournament he has returned to after three long years.

Nair was on course to pull an exciting chase off Mumbai, but his wicket and a collapse that saw Delhi lose three wickets to three runouts in the 19th over of the match broke his heart.
“This lad has not played the IPL in the last three years. He’s only got 9 First-Class hundreds this year. He was itching for a chance. Waiting to get into the park. He has been bothering me ‘When am I going to get a game? Will I get this one?’ Even in the nets, he kept asking Can I have a little more time in the middle? ‘" Badani said in a post-match interaction with the team.
Not many batters have smacked ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah for two sixes in an over, and Nair underlined his preparation as a key to success, having gained enough confidence during the domestic season in which he aggregated 1870 runs for Vidarbha across formats.
“Honestly, I had the confidence that I’ve played [IPL] before, and I know how it’s going to be and it’s nothing different that I’m going to be facing anything new," Nair told the media after the match.
“So, but in my mind, it was just about going out there and giving myself a few balls and just getting used to the speed of the game again and the atmosphere," Nair added.
Nair spoke about hitting conventional shots during Powerplay and then going for improvisation during the latter part of the innings as well.
“So I just told myself, ‘give yourself the time, play normal shots and then, you know, improvise when needed. ‘ Fortunately, everything came off, and I’m happy that I batted well," Nair said.
DC play their next game against the Rajasthan Royals on April 16 at home.
