Mexico City GP Set For Three-Year Extension With F1; To Be Hosted Through 2028

The Mexico City Grand Prix is set to renew its Formula One contract for three more years through 2028.
The head of government in Mexico City, Clara Brugada, made the exhilarating announcement during a press conference, unveiling that the highly anticipated three-year extension with F1 is set to be inked imminently.

“Next week, we will be signing the agreement with F1," she said when asked about the future of the race.
Brugada’s bold declaration has confirmed that negotiations with Formula 1’s management have reached a successful conclusion, paving the way for an electrifying future for the Mexico GP.
This monumental contract extension follows a series of successful renewals for the beloved Grand Prix, ensuring its continuity under a privately funded model.
The Mexico City GP returned to the F1 calendar after a two-decade absence in 2015.
Since federal support was withdrawn in 2018, the event has been sustained by local organizers and private stakeholders through a dedicated trust fund, demonstrating unwavering commitment and passion for the sport.
The agreement lasted until 2022, although in reality only two races were held because in 2020 F1 did not leave Europe and the Middle East due to the COVID-19 health crisis. Another new three-year contract allowed the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and F1 to extend the deal until 2025.
It had been suggested that the race’s future had hinged on Perez’s involvement in the championship, given his popularity had been one of the catalysts for the race’s reinstatement after 21 years away from the calendar. But evidently, the desire for the race remains without him.
The 2025 race is scheduled for Oct. 26 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Spain’s Carlos Sainz is the defending champion.
