What Is Gunotsav?
Gunotsav in Assam is an educational assessment initiative launched by the Government of Assam to evaluate and improve the quality of school education across the state. It aims to assess learning outcomes, identify gaps in education, and enhance overall teaching and infrastructure in government schools. Introduced in 2017, inspired by Gujarat’s Gunotsav model, the initiative is organized by the State Education Department with active participation from teachers, district officials, and external evaluators, including IAS and IPS officers.
The evaluation process is conducted in phases, covering thousands of schools. Schools are assessed based on student learning levels, infrastructure, cleanliness, and administrative efficiency. Both self-evaluation by schools and external evaluation by officials take place to ensure an objective review. Students are tested in subjects like Maths, Science, Social Science, and Languages to gauge their academic proficiency.
