'His Head Is Fried': Paul Scholes Questions Manchester United Head Coach Ruben Amorim’s Strategy In Deplying Patrick Dorgu On Right
The legendary English midfielder was surprised to see Amorim field the 20-year-old new recruit Dorgu play on the right when the Red Devils faced Leicester City in the FA Cup last week.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has revealed how he was left mystified by Ruben Amorim’s odd decision involving Patrick Dorgu. The retired midfielder was surprised to see the head coach make the 20-year-old play on the right when the Red Devils faced Leicester City in the FA Cup last week. He expressed his concern on the Overlap Fan Debate on YouTube while claiming the ex-Sporting Lisbon manager’s head was ‘fried’.
“A big concern for me is that we’ve been crying out for a left wing-back. We buy one [In Patrick Dorgu] and it tells me his [Ruben Amorim’s] head is a little bit fried and confused at the minute because he plays him at right wing-back and keeps Dalot on the left. What’s going on here?" Scholes said, as per multiple outlets.

Manchester United secured a single senior signing in the winter transfer window with Patrick Dorgu arriving from Leece. The duo of Diego Leon and Ayden Heaven were also pocketed but the pair likely won’t be making an impact in the first-team anytime soon. As for Dorgu, the 20-year-old can operate in virtually any position on either flank. The expectation was that the left-footer would be deployed in the left wing-back position by Amorim. When making his debut, however, Dorgu surprisingly started on the right side which sparked widespread criticism. They escaped with a narrow 2-1 victory, courtesy of second-half goals from Joshua Zirkee and Harry Maguire.
In the same podcast, Scholes later discussed how Amorim’s arrival at Manchester United has not changed the club’s current situation at all. “Look, I’m not at the point where I’m thinking it’s the wrong decision [to appoint Amorim] because he came into a mess and still feels like a mess," he said.
Speaking further, Scholes claimed he didn’t see a championship-winning core at Old Trafford. “There are a few things that are concerning. There’s a lot of stuff he needs to do, we all know that, especially in transfer windows, but I don’t see a core of players," he added.
Believing that the team needed more fresh blood, Scholes said, “I think a new goalkeeper is needed, possibly two centre-backs, two central midfield players, and two centre-forwards."
Manchester United are scheduled to play Tottenham Hotspur next in the Premier League on Sunday, February 16. It remains to be seen how Amorim fields his players at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after recent criticism.
