‘Great Tension’: Trump Calls Pahalgam Terror Attack A ‘Bad One’, Hopes India, Pakistan Will Settle Border Issues
Pahalgam Terror Attack: The tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad escalated after the terror attack in Pahalgam killed 26 persons, mostly tourists, on April 22.
US President Donald Trump on Friday condemned the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, calling it a “bad one", and expressed hope that India and Pakistan would resolve their border tensions on their own.
The tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad escalated after the terror attack in Pahalgam killed 26 persons, mostly tourists, on April 22. The Resistance Front, a Pakistan-backed terror outfit, claimed responsibility for the attack.

“I am very close to India and I’m very close to Pakistan, as you know, and they’ve had that fight for a thousand years in Kashmir. Kashmir has been going on for a thousand years, probably longer than that, and it (terrorist attack) was a bad one yesterday, over 30 people," said Trump while talking to reporters aboard Air Force One.

Addressing the long-standing conflict over the Kashmir region, the US president said: “There have been tensions on that border for 1,500 years. So, you know, it’s been the same, but I am sure they’ll get it figured out one way or the other. I know both leaders, there’s great tension between Pakistan and India, but there always has been."
Earlier, Trump called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to condemn the terror attack in Kashmir and extended America’s full support to India to bring to justice the perpetrators of the heinous act.
“President Donald Trump called Prime Minister Modi and conveyed his deepest condolences at the loss of innocent lives in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X.
Pahalgam Killings
At least 26 people were shot dead in Baisaran meadow at a popular tourist site in Kashmir. It was seen as one of the deadliest terror attacks in the region after the 2019 Pulwama bombing.
Following the attack, India announced a raft of measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. New Delhi also announced the shutting down of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, the suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme to Pakistani nationals and the scaling down of top officials at the High Commission.
Pakistan rejected India’s move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that any attempt to halt the flow of water would be considered an “act of war." It also threatened to suspend the 1972 Simla Agreement, which validates the Line of Control.
Meanwhile, PM Modi said that terrorists will be pursued “to the ends of the earth" as he assured to “identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers".
