According to an NDTV report, police said the incident came to light when the body of the victim was found by a few people in an abandoned car in a deserted area in Chikkabanavara on Saturday.
“We had received a distress call on 112 at 5.30pm on Saturday, informing us about the body. We have arrested his wife and mother-in-law for the crime. Further investigation is underway," North Bangalore Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Saidul Adavath said was quoted as saying by NDTV.
The police revealed that a preliminary investigation showed the accused initially spiked the man’s food with sleeping pills to make him drowsy. They then drove him to a secluded area and slit his throat with a knife before fleeing. The killing was attributed to the victim’s alleged extramarital affairs and illegal business transactions.
Police stated that Loknath had been in a relationship with the woman for two years before they registered their marriage in Kunigal in December. Although his family opposed the relationship due to the age gap, neither side was aware of the marriage. Shortly after the wedding, Loknath left his wife at her parents’ house. Her family only learned about the marriage two weeks ago. Around the same time, Loknath’s wife and in-laws discovered his alleged extramarital affairs and illegal business dealings, according to the police.
The relationship deteriorated as the couple frequently argued and even considered divorce. The situation worsened when Loknath allegedly began threatening his in-laws and warning them of dire consequences, leading his wife and her mother to devise a plan to kill him. The police also mentioned that Loknath was being investigated by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch in connection with a fraud case.
