Locals were outraged by the incident and attacked the vehicle, which was allegedly being driven by a minor. Videos showed people vandalising the SUV and one man climbing on the bonnet and kicking down the windshield.
While the teen driver remained at the site, three of his accomplices, also minors, reportedly fled the site. Members of the Sikh community also staged a protest outside the nearby police station and demanded strict action against the accused.
Police officials then took the minor in custody and assured the protesters that a criminal case would be fired and action would be taken as per law. A team of cops took the Thar vehicle to the Jawahar Nagar police station.
