45 Years Of Karz: Subhash Ghai Pays Tribute To Rishi Kapoor
Subhash Ghai presented a trophy to the cast of Karz to honour their contributions. On behalf of Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor accepted the award.

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, along with Simi Garewal, celebrated the 45th anniversary of the iconic film Karz at the Red Lorry Film Festival. During the event, Ghai presented a trophy to the cast members to honour their contributions to the film. Neetu Kapoor, wife of the late Rishi Kapoor, who played the lead role of Monty, attended the event and accepted the award on his behalf. Sharing a photo from the event, the filmmaker remembered an emotional moment, when Neetu paid tribute to Rishi by looking up to the sky.
Taking to Instagram, Ghai wrote, “When Neetu Rishi Kapoor paid her tribute to her husband Rishi Kapoor looking up to god. While receiving the KARZ trophy in celebration of its 45 years of glory at Red Lorry Film Festival. It was an emotional moment for all of us and we remembered, and paid our sincere tribute to Rishi Kapoor, as an actor star and person."

After the event, Neetu Kapoor spoke with DNA India and recalled memories of Rishi Kapoor from the sets of Karz. She praised his hard work and passion, saying that the film held a special place in his heart. The actress said, “My whole memory of Karz was my husband was too excited. He was always excited about movies, but this was very special for him."
Talking about the song Dard-e-dil Dard-e-jigar, where Rishi entertains the audience by playing the violin, Neetu added, “You know there’s a violin scene in the movie, where he’s playing the violin, to perfect that, he went to see a violinist, to observe the body language. If you see in the movie, he lifts his shoulder to place the violin perfectly and he used to practise that for hours. That’s how dedicated he was to his film."
Karz was released in June 1980 and became a classic. In 2008, a remake of the film was made, featuring Himesh Reshammiya in the lead role. Other than the late Rishi Kapoor, Tina Ambani and Simi Garewal, the Subhash Ghai directorial also featured Raj Kiran, Pran, Premnath and Durga Khote in key roles.
