Ben Affleck discussed his split from Jennifer Lopez, the challenges of co-parenting with former wife Jennifer Garner and how the rumours about their private life affect their kids.

It has been months since the high-profile divorce of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. The former couple finalised their divorce in January, just 20 weeks after she filed for the separation to put an end to their two-year marital relationship. While Lopez earlier addressed the divorce from her former husband, Affleck has now come out talking about his side of the story. In a chat, he discussed the split, the challenges of co-parenting with Jennifer Garner and how the rumours about their private life affect their kids.
Speaking with GQ, Ben Affleck did not get into detail as he admitted to feeling embarrassed and vulnerable when asked about his divorce from Jennifer Lopez. However, he cleared the air, saying that their split was drama-free and there was no “hidden intrigue" behind the divorce. He said, “There is no ‘So-and-so did this’ or ‘This was the big event.’ It sounds more like a couple’s therapy session."

Ben Affleck admitted to having realised that relationships are about understanding the issues instead of highlighting them. Further, he said that breakups are not sensational while also clarifying that Lopez’s 2024 documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, had nothing to do with their split. He decided to get involved in the project to support his ex-wife, despite their different views regarding public attention.

Ben Affleck acknowledged that there was no “root cause" behind their separation. Instead, the everyday relationship struggles prompted them to step in with the decision to part ways from each other. Affleck further mentioned the importance of understanding what marriage is about. He continued, “You don’t marry a ship captain and then say, ‘Well, I don’t like going out in the water.’ You’ve got to own what you know going into any relationship."
Before Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck was married to Jennifer Garner. The duo parted ways in 2015, bringing their marriage of a decade to a close. In the same interaction, he heaped praise on Garner for her parenting adding that they both work together to raise their three children, Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16 and Samuel, 13.
