In an unprecedented spectacle, five-time World Champion Magnus Carlsen will be seen taking on the world in an online freestyle chess event, in which server members from Chess.com will play against the Norwegian GM in a collective manner.
The event will witness Carlsen playing with white pieces, while the opponent’s moves will be decided by the world, who will have a 24-hour vote to decide the next move.

The first event is slated to get underway on the fourth of April.
The freestyle format is a dynamic version of classical chess in which the game starts with the pieces arranged in a semi-random order to avoid the limitations that come with kicking the game off as per stipulations, which could turn mundane with the over-analysis of the opening games.
Former World Champion Bobby Fischer was the pioneer who invented the freestyle format and Carlsen has been a vocal proponent of the same in recent years as he has started a Freestyle tournament in joint-venture with German entrepreneur Jan Henric Buettner.

The Freestlye Chess Grand Slam Tour got underway in Weissenhaus, Germany last year and also includes the Indian capital city of New Delhi as one of the five venues in the circuit, in addition to French Capital City, Paris, USA’s big-apple New York, and the South African city of Cape Town.
