2-Year-Old Urinates In Glass At Chinese Eatery, Mom Says ‘He Couldn’t Hold It’

A two-year-old boy in China sparked controversy at a restaurant after urinating into a glass while dining with his family. The incident occurred on March 13 at Fuyuanju Restaurant in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, and was later brought to light by a fellow diner.
According to a report from the South China Morning Post, the witness, surnamed Tang, mentioned that the boy was accompanied by his mother and two elderly relatives. She explained that the boy stood up from his seat at the table, removed his trousers and urinated into a glass that was meant for serving customers. The glass was not a disposable one.

“When the boy said he wanted to urinate, one elderly individual went to get a bin, suggesting the boy to pee there. But the boy’s mother said, ‘just let him pee directly into the glass’," she said.
Tang, who was dining nearby, was disturbed by the smell of urine that lingered on the table. She and her friends asked a restaurant worker to remove the glass.
The mother told the worker, “We are sorry that the kid could not really hold it any more. So he peed in the cup."
Tang discussed the matter with the eatery’s owner and asked for a discount or some free fruit as an apology. However, the owner refused and accused her of causing trouble. After a heated exchange, Tang paid her bill of 316 yuan (approximately Rs 3,700) and left.
Later, authorities launched an investigation into the matter but the restaurant staff had already disposed of the glass. Following a mediation process, the owner apologised to Tang and refunded her money along with a 1,000 yuan (over Rs 11,000) compensation. Tang accepted the apology and refund but declined the compensation.
This isn’t the first incident in China that has raised food safety concerns. A few days ago, another similar incident from Haidilao in Shanghai came into the spotlight. A shocking video showed a young man urinating into a vat of boiling broth. The footage sparked outrage on social media where users condemned the breach of food safety at one of China’s most popular restaurant chains. Haidilao responded to the crisis by issuing a public apology, stating they were “extremely sorry" and would pursue legal action against those involved.
In addition to the apology, the company compensated customers who had dined at the affected outlet. They reportedly spent tens of millions of yuan in compensation.
