Frustrated Candidate Rejects Job Offer After Interviewer Shows Up 45 Minutes Late
"These are not qualities I am looking for in a boss," the woman mentioned.

In today’s highly competitive job market, candidates often brace themselves for multiple rejections. However, a recent social media post flipped the script, showcasing a job seeker rejecting an offer instead. The now-deleted Reddit post detailed how the candidate walked away after the interviewer arrived late.
In the post, the applicant Nicole explained, “I got the job, but declined the offer. Here’s the email I sent her. Super awkward because she knows my partner personally."

The candidate revealed that the interviewer was nearly 45 minutes late. Nicole also shared the email she sent to decline the offer, stating, “Hi, thank you for your response. I have given it a lot of thought, and although I appreciate your offer, I’m afraid I will have to decline at this time. It pains me to say this, but our meeting yesterday did not live up to my expectations." She had anticipated a punctual meeting, but the interviewer not only arrived significantly late but also responded defensively when she addressed the issue.
“I expected for you to be on time and meet with me at the time we both agreed upon. Not only were you late, but you became defensive and proceeded to make excuses when I pointed this out. These are not qualities I am looking for in a boss. I think we can both agree that your behaviour would not have been considered appropriate if our roles had been switched," she added.
Nicole pointed out that if their roles had been reversed, such behaviour wouldn’t have been tolerated.
Several users commented on the post, with varying viewpoints on how she handled the matter.
One user applauded the woman for calling out the employer, stating, “I applaud this. Let’s normalize professional conduct."
“Good!!! The double standards are a huge issue in recruiting," a comment read.
Another one wrote, “Good decision but you said way too much. They don’t deserve such an explanation nor do you owe them one."
However, not everyone agreed. Some felt the email was unnecessary, with one person commenting, “You don’t need to ramble. Just get to the point. Politely but firmly say you didn’t appreciate the delay and their unprofessional response."
Someone criticised the tone, saying, “I get your perspective, but this makes you look really childish. The ‘faux’ professional tone is nauseating when it drags on this long."
Many also believed she should simply move on. “Just let it go lol. They probably hired someone else by the time you finished writing this," one user wrote. Another added, “I hope you have another offer or a backup job because, in this job market, every offer is a luxury—not something to reject so easily. Just my two cents."
