IAS Officer Officiates Wedding Of Tamil Nadu Tsunami Survivor He Rescued 20 Years Ago
After rescuing a two year old girl named Meena from the 2004 tsunami in Tamil Nadu, IAS officer J Radhakrishnan had the honour of officiating her wedding recently.

IAS officer J Radhakrishnan, who played a key role in the 2004 tsunami relief efforts in Tamil Nadu, recently officiated the wedding of Meena, the youngest survivor of the tragedy. She was only two when she was found alive in the wreckage after losing her parents and taken to a children’s home. Following the rescue, Radhakrishnan alongside his wife, Krithika became her godparents. Now, the officer had the honour of conducting Meena’s wedding, where many of her fellow survivors from the children’s home, joined the celebration as her extended family. Sharing glimpses from the wedding, he felt happy to see other survivors “Sowmya, Subhash and little Sara stealing hearts as they celebrated their dear friend’s special day."
Taking to Instagram, the officer wrote, “Lovely to be part of Meena and Manimaran’s wedding today in Nagapattinam. Our post tsunami journey with the children of Nagai has always been one of hope, and Meena and Sowmya are shining examples of resilience. It was a joy to see Sowmya, Subhash and little Sara stealing hearts as they celebrated their dear friend’s special day. With Krithika, Arvind and friends from those days, we couldn’t help but reflect on how time has flown, bringing back cherished memories of Annai Sathya Illam and its incredible inmates Tamilarasi, Vinotha, Sadhana and many more, who too joined in the celebrations."

Seeing them grow, study, graduate and now settle into beautiful lives brings tears of joy. A day to remember, a family that has grown beyond bonds of blood. Sharing moments from the past that remind us how far we’ve all come," IAS officer J Radhakrishnan added.
Along with photos from Meena and Manimaran’s wedding, Radhakrishnan also shared memories of him spending time with little Meena and other rescued children at the shelter.
