Cheetah Conservationist Vincent Van Der Merwe Found Dead In Saudi Arabia With Head Injury
Vincent van der Merwe, South African conservationist, was found dead in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, reportedly after a fall in his apartment building.

South African conservationist Vincent van der Merwe has been found dead in Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh, several posts by his family and friends on Facebook suggested.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the loss of my dear friend and colleague, Vincent Van Der Merwe. Your work with the cheetah Metapopulation was truly remarkable, and it was an honor to collaborate with you. We had so many plans, so many dreams, and now I’m left wondering how to move forward without you. Rest in peace, my Vin. You will be profoundly missed," one of the messages read.

According to a report with TOI, Vincent’s body was found Sunday evening in the hallway of his apartment building.
He also bore a head injury, the report states.
As the CCTV videos were scanned, it was believed Vincent fell and struck his head on the floor, the report quoted sources.
An official confirmation on the same was awaited.
Vincent van der Merwe was a Cheetah Metapopulation Manager of The Metapopulation Initiative and the world’s foremost cheetah expert.
In 2024, Vincent visited India to monitor the translocation project.
Vincent was believed to be a key person behind the success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Project Cheetah in Madhya Pradesh, along with local officers.
He was also internationally recognised for his role in cheetah conservation and reintroduction projects in Africa and Asia.
The report states Vincent had extended his contract for another year in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
