The only star that shone bright was Virat Kohli. Playing in his 299th ODI for India, the former captain became the only batter in the world with 51 hundred in this format. And not just that, Kohli shattered multiple records on Sunday night, stamping his authority and proving that there is so much left in the tank.

Kohli notched the triple figures off 111 in the 43rd over with a boundary, becoming the first Indian batter to smash a century against Pakistan in Champions Trophy History. It was the winning shot that left Pakistan gasping for breath in the ongoing tournament.

The magnificent innings against Pakistan also saw him reaching the 14,000-run mark in ODIs in just 287 innings. He thus became the fastest player to achieve this feat, bettering the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the milestone in 350 innings.

The former Indian captain remained unbeaten on 100, completing 14085 runs in 299 games. In the due process, he went ahead of Australian legend Ricky Ponting to become the third-highest run-scorer in international cricket, after Tendulkar and former Sri Lankan legend Kumara Sangakkara.

Before notching the historic ton, Kohli’s got a 6th fifty-plus score in Champions Trophy history, surpassing Rohit Sharma and equaling the tallies of Shikhar Dhawan, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.

Before setting Dubai International Stadium ablaze with his fiery knock, Kohli achieved a remarkable fielding milestone. In India’s tournament opener against Bangladesh, Kohli showcased his fielding prowess by taking two crucial catches. These efforts brought his ODI catch count to 156, equalling the record held by former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin for the most catches by an Indian fielder.

He took more catches against Pakistan and became the Indian cricketer with most number of catches in the 50-over format. In list of most catches in ODIs, former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene stands atop with 218 grabs, followed by Ricky Ponting (160), and then Kohli at third with 157 takes and counting.

Virat Kohli’s remarkable performances in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 not only underscore his exceptional talent and dedication but also solidify his status as one of cricket’s all-time greats.
