Karthik, slightly embarrassed by Axar’s gesture, ordered him to act like a skipper and not entertain him in the middle of a nets session.
When Axar did not pay any heed, Karthik walked off, saying, “Don’t joke around, please carry on batting."
Delhi are sitting at No. 2 in the points table with 12 points in eight games. The last time DC met Bengaluru, KL Rahul made sure DC ended up on the winning side.
“Axar is just one of those players who leads everyone and everyone follows him. He’s an amazing talent and the way he plays just makes everyone proud to be at Delhi Capitals," Jake Fraser-McGurk said ahead of the match.
“He always says keep smiling to everyone, not just me. He’s one of those guys who is so relaxed in all these situations. It feels like you’re talking to one of your best friends instead of the captain," Fraser-McGurk added.
While Axar has led from the front, he hasn’t bowled a lot in the competition because of a niggle but has completed his full quota of overs in the last match, marking another positive for a franchise on the charge.
Krunal Pandya will be performing a similar role for the Bengaluru camp. With 12 wickets in nine matches, he has done the job for his new team.
Delhi have been playing just three foreign players since dropping Fraser-McGurk, and that might continue with Abishek Porel and Karun Nair at the top of the order.
