Kohli and former India captain MS Dhoni will be the center of attraction in IPL 2025’s first Southern Derby, a game that promises fireworks.
The match carries extra weight for Chennai, who will be seeking revenge after Bengaluru crushed their playoff hopes in 2024 with a decisive win.
Meanwhile, Dhoni and Kohli are lauded as modern-day icons, but for former India opener Navjot Singh Sidhu, the two legends are no less than institutions whose relevance wouldn’t die down while their contemporaries faded.
“People call them icons. I call them institutions. Virat Kohli’s name will stay for generations. Dhoni’s name will stay for generations. Why? For stamping his supremacy throughout the world over some time with longevity and adapting to all formats, the attitude of a lion, right?" Sidhu asked while speaking on JioHotstar.
“And someone with his charisma and magnetism has eclipsed across the globe. Across the globe, he is a great role model. The kids in the street want to be Virat Kohli. That’s the kind of impact," Sidhu said.
Bengaluru are coming off a win against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, and captain Rajat Patidar said that there was some pre-game pressure on him, but it eased out once he got support from Kohli and the bowlers stuck to the franchise’s strategies.
