India came close to winning the 2023 ODI World Cup but suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Australia.
Kohli was adjudged Player of the Tournament for scoring a record-breaking 765 runs in the tournament from 11 games at a stunning average of 95.62.
India’s win in the recent Champions Trophy has almost cleared the path for Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma to continue their career till the 2027 World Cup. The latter will, however, be 40 by the time the tournament starts.
Ahead of IPL 2025, Kohli had said that he isn’t thinking of retirement at the moment, emphasising that he still loves playing cricket.
“Don’t get nervous. I’m not making any announcements. As of now, everything is fine. I still love playing the game," Kohli said at the RCB Innovation Lab conclave.
“It pretty much comes down to just the pure joy, enjoyment, competitive streak and love for the game. And as long as that is there, I will continue to play. As I said, I am not playing for any achievement," Kohli added.
