News18 Pulse: One Nation, One Election | 80% Respondents Feel ONOE Will Make Day-To-Day Life Easier
While 90 per cent people in North India believe One Nation One Election will make day to day life easy, at least 24.4 per cent in South India feel that may not be the case, as per the News18 survey.

The One Nation One Election Bill is with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) which met for the first time on Wednesday after the legislation was introduced in Parliament. According to News18 Pulse, over 80 per cent people surveyed believe that having fewer elections can ease daily life with lesser disruptions.
It has been observed how every time elections take place, rallies lead to traffic woes for locals and schools and offices are shut for a couple of days for polling. However, with elections once in 5 years, a majority of people believe this will reduce disruptions to day-to-day life.

The ONOE Bill has gotten thumbs up for making daily life easy from 87.4 per cent people in Central India, 85.4 per cent in East India, 90 per cent in North India, 90 per cent in North India, 78.1 per cent from North East India, 67.5 per cent in South India and 72.6 per cent in West India.
Overall, only 13.2 per cent people say that ONOE will lead to lesser disruptions in day to day life while 6 per cent said they were not sure whether or not that may happen.

According to the survey, the ONOE proposal enjoys strong overall support across states with 80.1 per cent backing the idea nationally. The support for ONOE is especially strong in Central, East, and North regions while it is relatively lower in the South, West and North East.
News18 conducted an India-wide survey on ONOP between December 23 and December 31, 2024. A total of 4,573 respondents were interviewed across 29 states and UTs of India. Out of those interviewed, 86.5 per cent were Hindus. While 66.1 per cent were urban respondents, 33.9 per cent were rural. Meanwhile, 73.7 per cent surveyed were males while 26.3 per cent were females.
The Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill were introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Winter Session and referred to the JPC.
The 39-member JPC is headed by BJP MP and former minister of state for law, PP Chaudhary. The panel also includes Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of the Congress, Sanjay Jha of the JD(U), Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Shinde, AAP’s Sanjay Singh, and TMC’s Kalyan Banerjee.
