Thomas Tuchel, who took charge of the English national football team with the goal of leading the Three Lions to the FIFA World Cup title next year, has started life in the hottest seat in the sport with a couple of wins in his first two games at the helm of the side.

There was a lot of talk about the appointment considering the history between Tuchel’s home country, Germany and England. Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp jested that Tuchel was a German spy in an attempt to amuse the audience.

    “I don’t know," said the 78-year-old before making comments designed to amuse his audience.

    “I’ll be honest with you, I think he’s a German spy. I’m telling you," the 78-year-old Redknapp said as the room burst out into laughter.

    “I’m telling you, he’s been sent over to fuck us up," he continued as the audience were left in splits.

    Redknapp pulled parallels with radio personality William Joyce, who broadcast German propaganda during the Second World War.

    “Listen, I’m telling you, he’s like Lord Haw Haw in the war -– ‘We have your best soldiers captured’ and all that," the former Bournemouth, West Ham, Southampton head coach said.

    “Go over and ruin that team. Ja," Redknapp said to evoke further laughter.

    Thelight-hearted comments are believed to be from an event before Tuchel’s bow for England as the 51-year-old helmed England to a 2-0 win over Albania and followed it up with a 3-0 triumph against Latvia.

      England, who have gone without a triumph at the World Cup since the 1966 title they clinched at home, and Tuchel has been handed the daunting task of bringing the coveted cup back home.

      Tuchel replaced Gareth Southgate after the Englishman led the Three Lions to a deep run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and also took England to the final of the previous two UEFA European Championships, only to fall at the final hurlde each time.
