‘Act Of Retaliation’: BJP Condemns ‘Brutal Attack’ On Bhagavat Reciter Hiranmoy Maharaj In Bengal
BJP claimed that the attack was linked to an earlier incident where the spiritual leader refused to comply with the demands of individuals associated with the ruling TMC.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday condemned the “brutal attack" on Bhagavat reciter Hiranmoy Goswami Maharaj in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal, calling it an “act of retaliation" fueled by the ruling TMC’s “vote bank politics."
BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya alleged that the Maharaj was subjected to a life-threatening assault, during which a noose was tied around his neck, he was attacked with a sharp weapon, and his sacred matted hair (jata) was forcibly cut off.

Malviya claimed that the attack was linked to an earlier incident where the spiritual leader refused to comply with the demands of individuals associated with the ruling TMC.
“Earlier, during one of his Bhagavat recitations, certain individuals linked to Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress had demanded that slogans such as ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai,’ ‘Hindu Sanatan Dharm Ki Jai,’ ‘Gau Mata Ki Jai,’ and ‘Jai Shri Ram’ should not be chanted—an instruction he refused to follow", he wrote.
“This brutal attack is an act of retaliation driven by the TMC’s vote bank politics. The space for Hindu religious freedom in Bengal is shrinking at an alarming rate", he added.
Suvendu Adhikari also joined Malviya in condemning the attack against the spiritual leader, alleging that the right to religious freedom for people following traditional faiths in West Bengal is gradually diminishing, drawing parallels to the situation in Bangladesh.
He claimed that the state has allowed “jihadist elements" to operate freely, leading to growing intimidation and restrictions on Hindus practising their religion.

Adhikari further alleged that Hindus are repeatedly prevented from worshipping, while temples and Puja pandals face attacks. He noted that organisers receive threats, and incidents of vandalism, looting, and arson targeting Hindu shops and homes have become common.
