Social Media Users Express Shock As Vadodara Hit-And-Run Accused Gives Interviews After Accident

Rakshit Chaurasia, the accused law student who was later arrested, said that he was driving the car at the speed of 50 kmph when he lost control of the vehicle due to a pothole on the road.

Rakshit Chaurasia, the accused in the Vadadora hit-and-run case which killed one person, on Friday told media that he was not inebriated at the time of the incident. However, several social media users doesn’t seem happy with the accused giving his account of the accident to reporters in front of police officers.

A woman died on the spot and four others suffered serious injuries as a speeding car, driven by Chaurasia, rammed into two-wheelers near Muktanand crossroad in the Karelibaug area of Gujarat’s Vadodara at late on Thursday night.

    The videos of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed his friend, the co-driver and vehicle owner, exiting the car and quickly shifting blame for the accident on Chaurasia.

    Chaurasia on the other hand was seen shouting, “Another round? Another round?" in the video, which raised suspicions that he was under the influence of alcohol. In the visuals, he was also seen being thrashed by the bystanders.

    Social Media Outrage

    Chaurasia claiming innocence sparked outrage from social media users. A user named wrote on X, “Is He Now Released From Police Custody? A Brutal Crime Accused Is Holding A Press Meet."

    “And even if He is not released, The Same Question remains: Who Gave Permission to hold a press Meet to an accused?" he asked.

    “This is very shocking, police arrested & released Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia. He is studying law at MS University, killed one woman & injured 7 others after crashing his car into multiple 2-wheelers. Looks like Essay is downloading," another post read.

    What Did The Accused Say?

    Chaurasia, a law student, on Friday claimed that he was not inebriated at the time of the incident on late Thursday night. He also stated that he was driving the car at the speed of 50 kmph when he lost control of the vehicle due to a pothole on the road.

    “The car lost control due to the potholes on the road. The car was running at a speed of around 50 kmph. There was a scooty and a car. I was not drunk. I want to meet the family members of the deceased because it was my fault. Whatever they wish should happen," he was quoted as saying.
