Chaitra Navratri Puja Vidhi: Chaitra Navratri, often called Vasanta Navratri, is a nine-day Hindu festival honouring the goddess Durga and her nine incarnations. Celebrated with great devotion, fasting, and rituals, the festival signifies the start of the Hindu lunisolar calendar.
According to Drik Panchang, Chaitra Navratri will commence on March 30 and conclude on April 7. To obtain the blessings of Goddess Durga, devotees in northern India practice fasts, conduct pujas, and recite religious hymns during Chaitra Navratri, which is very important there.

Numerous ceremonies are carried out in homes and temples during the nine-day celebration, which is characterised by a rigorous fasting and prayer schedule.
Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana) – March 30, 2025
- The installation of a sacred pot (kalash) filled with water, coconut, and mango leaves marks the start of the celebration.
- To represent prosperity, a little barley bed is sown next to the kalash.
- For nine days, the kalash is worshipped every day.
Prayers and Offerings Every Day
- Special bhajans and aarti are performed on each day in honour of one of the Navadurga forms.

Food Regulations And Fasting

Sandhi Puja (Ashtami Night to Navami Morning – April 5, 2025)
- A special Sandhi Puja is conducted in the between of Navami and Ashtami.
- In addition to offering red flowers and sweets, devotees light 108 diyas (lamps).
Kanya Pujan (Navami Day – April 6, 2025)
- As manifestations of the goddess Durga, young girls (Kumaris) are welcomed home, and their hands and feet are washed, after which they are adored.
- Traditional prasads of puri, chana, and halwa are provided to them.
Navratri Parana (Breaking the Fast – April 7, 2025)
- Devotees break their fast on Dashami or Navami by offering food to the poor or Brahmins.

Chaitra Navratri 2025: Step-By-Step Guide
Step 1: Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana)
- Purify the puja space using Gangajal or clean water.
- Fill a clay pot with soil and plant barley seeds inside.
- Place a copper or brass Kalash (pot) on the earth and fill it with water, betel nut, and money.
- Wrap five mango leaves around the Kalash’s neck and cover with a coconut wrapped in crimson fabric.
Step 2: Invoke Goddess Durga
- Light a ghee or oil lamp (diya) in front of Kalash.
- Meditate on Goddess Durga’s form and recite mantras to get her blessings.
- Offer fresh flowers, rice grains, and kumkum to the Goddess.
Step 3: Offer Prasad and Bhog
- Make sattvic food offerings to the Goddess, such as fruits, sweets, and kheer.
- Offer it with water and tulsi leaves while reciting mantras or the Durga Chalisa.
Step 4: Perform Aarti
- Sing traditional Navratri or Durga bhajans while lighting camphor and performing aartis.
- Use bells and clap hands to create a virtuous vibe.
Step 5: Navratri Fasting and Kanya Puja
- Devotees who are fasting may consume fruits, milk, and other vrat dietary items.
- On the eighth (Ashtami) or ninth (Navami) day, worship nine young girls as the manifestation of Goddess Durga during the Kanya Puja ceremony.
