Momos have become one of the most popular street foods these days. You’ll find them in almost every street and neighbourhood. While they are traditionally enjoyed in North India, Nepal, and Tibet, they are now widely loved across the country. The good news is, momos are quite easy to make at home. Here’s a simple recipe for veg momos that you must try.

Ingredients For Momos

    For the dough

    • 2 cups Refined flour
    • ½ tsp Salt
    • 1 tbsp Oil
    • Water for kneading

    For the filling

    • 1 cup grated cabbage
    • ½ cup grated carrot
    • ½ cup finely chopped capsicum
    • 1 finely chopped onion
    • 1 tsp grated ginger
    • 1 tsp grated garlic
    • ½ tsp black pepper
    • 1 tsp soy sauce
    • Salt to taste
    • 1 tbsp oil

    Recipe

    Step 1: Kneading the Dough

    1. In a bowl, mix refined flour, salt, and oil.
    2. Gradually add water and knead a stiff dough.
    3. Cover and set aside for 20 minutes.

    Step 2: Preparing the Filling

    1. Heat oil in a pan. Add ginger, garlic, and onion; saute lightly.
    2. Add the remaining vegetables and stir-fry on high flame for 3–4 minutes.
    3. Add soy sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and let the filling cool.

    Step 3: Shaping the Momos

    1. Divide the dough into small balls and roll them into thin discs.
    2. Place a spoonful of filling in the centre.
    3. Fold and pleat the edges to shape the momo.
    4. Repeat the process for the remaining dough.

    Step 4: Steaming

    Grease the steamer with a little oil and arrange the momos inside. Steam for 10–12 minutes.

    Ingredients

    • 2 boiled tomatoes
    • 4–5 dried red chillies (soaked in hot water)
    • 4–5 garlic cloves
    • Salt to taste
    • 1 tsp lemon juice or vinegar
