After a wait of nearly five years, Amazon Prime’s crime drama Paatal Lok returned with another deadly, gripping and intense season. Set against the backdrop of the misty hills of Nagaland and the chaotic lanes of Delhi, the new season focuses on a disturbing series of murders while exploring themes of systemic corruption and personal turmoils. Like the first season, Jaideep Ahlawat leads the show alongside some new faces like Tilotama Shome and Prashant Tamang.
Tamang, in particular, has grabbed the attention of the viewers with his impressive performance as the show’s antagonist. Born in Darjeeling in 1983, Prashant Tamang left his school after his father passed away in an accident, and joined the Kolkata Police. He worked as a constable in his father’s place and also sang for the police orchestra. In 2007, Tamang auditioned for Indian Idol 3 upon his friends and seniors’ requests. He not only got into the singing reality show but also ended up winning it. He left behind Amit Paul with a huge margin of votes and took home the trophy and a hefty cash prize.
After his win, Tamang did a world tour and even launched his first-ever album, Dhanyavad, which included both Hindi and Nepali songs. In 2009, the popular singer decided to try his luck in acting. He started his career in the field with Nepali films. In 2010, Tamang’s debut film Gorkha Paltan was released, which did very well at the box office. Following this, the singer-turned-actor appeared in several other films like Angalo Yo Maya Ko, Kina Maya Ma, Nishani and Pardesi. After a gap of almost a decade, Prashant Tamang was once again seen on the screen after he bagged a role in Amazon Prime’s Paatal Lok season 2.
In his personal life, Prashant is married to Martha, and the couple has a daughter, Ariah Tamang.
Speaking of Paatal Lok season 2, the new season opened with the murder of a high-profile North-Eastern businessman at a posh hotel in Delhi during an important event. While Ishwak Singh’s character, ACP Imran Ansari, investigates this case, Jaideep Ahlawat’s Inspector Hathiram Chaudhary embarks on the investigation of a missing man. The two cases then lead the duo to the same place, Nagaland.
Directed by Avinash Arun and Sudip Sharma, Paatal Lok season 2 premiered on January 17.
