Priyanka Chopra's Mom On Her 'Most Challenging Role' In Bajirao Mastani: 'Kashibai Was Hard Because...'

In a recent conversation, Madhu Chopra opened up about Priyanka Chopra’s experience of working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Bajirao Mastani.

Global icon Priyanka Chopra has delivered a number of powerful performances so far and is constantly working hard. However, her role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial Bajirao Mastani received huge appreciation from her fans and viewers alike. She played the character, ‘Kashibai’ opposite Ranveer Singh, who starred in the role of the heroic Peshwa Bajirao. Now, in a candid conversation, her mother, Madhu Chopra delved into details about PeeCee’s experience of working in the historical drama movie.

Despite the film’s narrative and engaging scenes, it was Priyanka Chopra’s expressions that stood out among the masses. In an interview, Madhu Chopra was asked to choose a favourite from her daughter’s years-long acting career. And in reply, she picked Barfi, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Ileana D’Souza opposite Priyanka, and Bajirao Mastani. She further claimed that the role of ‘Kashibai’ was one of the most challenging roles of her career until now.

    Talking about the same, the doting mother mentioned how Priyanka used to be extremely focused during the shoot of Bajirao Mastani. Stating reasons behind this, Madhu told Lehren, “Kashibai was very hard because there were tight shots, and it was all on the face. The expressions were everything."

    Madhu continued explaining that it is very hard to please the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and for this, PeeCee used to even stop talking so as to stay focused on her shots. She shared, “Sanjay [Leela] Bhansali is not an easy director, and to keep him pleased in the sense that he is satisfied with the performance… that was the target," adding, “There were no distractions, she would not even talk inside her van during that time."

    During the same interview, Madhu however refrained from revealing if there were any differences between her daughter and the director when she was not offered the lead in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Madhu revealed that Priyanka was extremely happy when she was later approached for the biographical movie Mary Kom, which was produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

    Deepika Padukone played the titular role of Mastani, who is an expert dancer, singer and warrior in the film, which was released in 2015.

    On the work front, Priyanka was last seen in the series Citadel in the lead role of ‘Nadia Sinh’. Alongside this, four films were released in 2024 which also had the actress in the role of a producer – To Kill a Tiger, Women Of My Billion, Born Hungry and Anuja.

    As per multiple reports, she will next appear in the Heads of State, The Bluff and the second season of Citadel. Additionally, she has been shooting for SS Rajamouli’s next with Mahesh Babu. However, fans are eagerly waiting for an official announcement regarding the same from her side.
