Yash Had His Eyes On Just Ravana's Role In Ramayan, Actor Reveals The Reason
Yash has joined the cast of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, playing Ravana alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi.

Yash recently joined the sets of Nitesh Tiwari-directorial Ramayana in Mumbai. The actor has begun shooting in the city alongside Ranbir Kapoor. The KGF star, who plays the mighty Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus, says that he didn’t want to play any other character in the film except the demon king Ravana as it is ‘the most exciting role to play as an actor’.
Yash told India Today, “It’s a very fascinating character. I wouldn’t have done it for any other reason. If you asked me if I wanted to play any other character in Ramayana, probably not. For me, Ravana is the most exciting character to play as an actor. I like the shades and nuances of this particular character. There is a vast scope to present this character in a different way."

While working on the visual effects for his upcoming film Toxic in Los Angeles, Yash crossed paths with Namit Malhotra of DNEG, the VFX company handling the project. Their conversations soon turned to Ramayan, where they realised a shared ambition to present the epic on a grand international scale. This even led to Yash taking on a dual role in the film, both as an actor and a co-producer!
Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi in lead roles, Ramayana is one of the most awaited films. Ranbir and Sai have already filmed portions of their roles in Mumbai, and now Yash, who is also one of the film’s producers, has kicked off shooting for his portrayal of Ravana in the city. A source revealed to a leading portal that after two days of costume trials, the KGF star began filming his scenes on February 21.
The current shooting schedule is centered around intense war sequences, with some key battle scenes being filmed at Mumbai’s Aksa Beach. After wrapping up this portion, the team will shift to a studio in Dahisar for the next phase of filming.
A source said, “The war portions are being mounted on a grand scale, with the action choreography designed to reflect Ravana’s strategic prowess. It will be a combination of green screen shots and those shot on the ground and involve heavy VFX work. This set piece doesn’t require Ranbir’s presence as it’s not the Ram-Ravana face-off. Other key actors have joined Yash for this leg."
Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita. It will be a two-part series. Ramayan Part 1 is scheduled for release on November 6, 2026, coinciding with Diwali. The second part is expected to follow in 2027.
Ramayana also features Lara Dutta, Sunny Deol, Indira Krishna and others in pivotal roles.
