Paris Olympics 2024 Day 12 Highlights: Mirabai Chanu Takes 4th; Avinash Sable Finishes 11th

Avinash Sable has finished 11th in the Men’s Steeplechase 3000m final. His time was at 8:14.18.

In another heartbreaking end, Mirabai misses out on the medal as she finishes at fourth spot with a total of 199kgs.

1. Zhihui Hou of China takes the gold after setting the Olympic Record with 117kgs in the clean and jerk round.
2. Mihaela Valentina Cambei takes the second spot with a spirited performance.
3. Thailand’s Surodchana Khambao takes the third spot with a total of 200kgs.

Mirabai Chanu is in for her final attempt and she has taken the gamble to lift 114kgs. She is able to do the clean with ease but when it comes to the jerk, she loses her balance to ends her campaign at

Valentina! Take a bow. After injuring her arm in the second attempt, she was brave enough to come in for the third. The elbow seems to have had the same issue yet again, but she pulls through in the end with the 112kg lift.

What a comeback by Mirabai Chanu. Right off the bat, she comes back for her second attempt and she nails the 111kg clean and jerk, albeit with a bit of struggle during the jerk.

Mirabai Chanu is in finally. She puts on her belt, chalks up her hands and is received by a loud roar by the Indian supporters. She is able to do the clean without difficulty but when it comes to the jerk, it proved to be too much for her.

Mirabai Chanu has changed her first clean and jerk lift to 111 kgs right off the bat. She is gunning to equal the current leader, Romania’s Valentina straight up. A strong show of intent by the Indian weightlifter.

Mirabai Chanu has opted to go for the 107kg for her first clean and jerk lift. If she is able to nail this one, she could shoot right up to second here. Putting her in a solid contest for a gold medal as well.

At the end of the snatch round, Mirabai Chanu is currently sitting third with her 88kg snatch along with Thailand’s Surodchana. The World Record Holder is currently above her with an 89 kg snatch along with Romania’s Valentina Cambei with the 93kg snatch.

Mirabai Chanu is back for the third lift and she nails the 88kg snatch as she smiles as she completes her final snatch of the day. As of this moment she has the biggest snatch lift.

Mirabai is back in for the second lift in the snatch segment. She has chosen to go with 88kgs which would be the best lift of the day. However, she lifts it up too fast off the floor and she is in disbelief.

Abdulla Narangolintevida takes the final jump and scores 16.49. Meanwhile, Praveen Chithravel is unable to set a new best and settles with 16.21.

Right then, the moment we have been waiting for is here. Mirabai Chanu walks in for her first lift of the evening. She comes in for the 85kg snatch here. That is just about as smooth as it can get. She makes it look easy there and completes the lift with ease.

Praveen Chithravel in his second attempt, can improve on his score with 16.25. Meanwhile, his fellow competitor also improves on his jump with 16.19 but is well short of the qualifying jump.

Lagatao is back in for the second attempt where she looks to lift 59 kg. After a brief struggle, she can lift it to complete the attempt. She will look to hit the 62kg mark next.

In the third attempt, she was a bit too fast in lifting the bar and had an unsuccessful attempt in the final one.

Nicola Velasco Lagatao is up first for the snatch round. The Guam-based weightlifter is able to complete the 56kg snatch. She will take on the 59 kgs in the next round.

Abdulla Narangolintevida is now in action for Group B qualifiers. Like Praveen, he also hits 15.99 which once again is not enough for a qualifying spot.

Praveen Chithravel from India is now in action for the Group A qualification event and he only takes 15.99 which is not enough to secure a qualifying spot. But he has two more jumps left.

Salif Mane is the fourth to hit the qualification criteria as the long-jumper from the USA gets a jump of 17.16. He is then followed by Portugal’s Pedro Pichardo who scores 17.44 to also secure his spot as well.

Hugues Fabrice Zango from Burkina Faso takes the second qualifying spot with a jump of 17.16 points

Spain’s Jordan Alejandro Diaz Fortun is first up and secures the qualification quota with a jump of 17.24m.

At the end of the second quarter, France has the lead with 45 points against Germany’s 33 in the Women’s Basketball quarterfinal.

Praveen Chithravel will be taking part in the Group A qualifying while Abdulla Narangolintevida will be in Group B respectively. Athletes who meet the qualification standard of 17:10 or the 12 best performers in total will make their way to the final.

Praveen Chiravel is the one who has been able to hit the qualification criteria with his season’s best score being 17.12. Abdulla Narangolintevida will certainly be put to the test as he will have to pull out a season’s best score for him to qualify.

Disksha Dagar brings an end to her round with yet another bogey on the 18th hole to drop her down to seventh in the standings so far.

Not ideal as Diksha Dagar takes the bogey in the 17th hole which has dropped her to third.

Diksha Dagar has now jumped up to the second spot in the standings as of now. She managed to take a birdie in the 14th hole. Meanwhile, Aditi Ashok has fallen down to 11th after a double bogey in the final hole.

In the Women’s 10m Platform final diving event, China’s Hongchan Quan takes the gold with a score of 425.6. She is followed by her fellow compatriot Yuxi Chen and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s Kim Mi Rae.

Both Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar shared the third spot as of now. Aditi is able to go at par from the 14th to the 17th holes. Meanwhile Diksha is at the 12th hole where she took a birdie.

Earlier India’s high jumper, Sarvesh Anil Kushare was eliminated from the high jump qualifier after he failed to make the 2.20m jump. He had to jump at least 2.29m or finish among the 12 best performers. However, his 13th-place finish has resulted in his elimination.

India’s Aditi Ashok takes the lead with a birdie followed by a par in the 13th and 14th holes respectively. Meanwhile, Diksha Dagar sits at joint-seventh with a birdie followed by a par in the seventh and eighth holes respectively.

Australia have beaten Serbia in the quarterfinal basketball event. The Aussies were fairly dominant in the first three quarters but the Serbian’s late fightback proved to be futile as the scorecard read 85-67.

Germany’s Annika Wendle beats Turkey’s  Zeynep Yetgil as she gets the victory by fall. But this means an end to Antim Pangal’s campaign as she would have wanted to take part in the repechage but Yetgil’s defeat has confirmed she won’t be part of it.

Paris Olympics organisers said that a training session in the river Seine had been authorised, a day after cancelling another session due to pollution.

If the water is unfit on those days, organisers plan to move the competition to the Vaires-sur-Marne lake where the canoeing events are being held.
