Divorce Court Orders Husband To Pay Wife Rs 30 Lakh Extra For Years Of Housework
In China, a judge ordered a man named Hu to pay his wife Rs 30 lakh for household work after their divorce as the wife had left her job to manage the home and care for their daughter

The dissolution of a relationship often brings as much pain as its formation brings joy. However, sometimes circumstances arise that make it impossible for two people to continue living together. In such instances, divorce occurs, and a settlement is reached regarding the property and responsibilities between the husband and wife.
A similar situation unfolded in China, but here, a judge’s unexpected decision left the husband astounded.

The Final Ruling
A divorce case was ongoing between a husband and wife in China, with almost everything decided. However, during the final ruling, the judge said something that the husband had not anticipated. He was taken aback upon hearing it.
While he was aware of the property division and the shared responsibility for raising their children, he had no idea he would be required to pay a substantial sum for household work.
Wife Demands Payment For Household Work
According to a report by the South China Morning Post, a man named Hu married in 2011, and the couple had a daughter the same year. In recent years, disagreements regarding their daughter’s education led to Hu leaving the house in 2022, and the couple began living separately.
Subsequently, Hu filed for divorce in 2024. The wife sought custody of their daughter and a share of their joint property. Additionally, she demanded 50,000 yuan, approximately Rs 6 lakh, as compensation for the household work she had done over the years.
Court’s Verdict Shocks The Husband
Hu’s wife stated she had left her job to manage the household and care for their daughter. In March, the court ruled that Hu must pay a monthly amount and a lump sum of Rs 30 lakh for their daughter’s upbringing.
Furthermore, the judge ordered Hu to pay five times the Rs 6 lakh his wife had demanded for household work, amounting to an additional Rs 30 lakh. Although the husband was shocked by this ruling, the judge emphasised that household work is the responsibility of both partners, not just one. If he does not fulfil this role, he must compensate financially.
