Employee Compares Workplace To 'Jail' In Viral Post, Fuels Concern Over Corporate Toxicity
Mobile phone usage is strictly prohibited at the workplace and even when allowed, employees are supposed to attend to personal calls of emergency.

Workplace toxicity is usually mentioned as a problem in public discussions, but its practices might be even worse. In a recent post being shared on Reddit, an employee complained of similar issues. The person provided a list of rules that allegedly govern the employees within the office space in question, making the place resemble a ‘jail’. The post, which featured a screenshot of these rules, brought to light the rigid corporate policies and employees’ welfare.
According to the rules, the working area must be very strict, and the employees are to stay glued to their computer screens. Any inactivity, including looking away from the computer for a short time, is grounds for reprimand. Mobile phone usage is strictly prohibited at the workplace and even when allowed, employees are supposed to attend to personal calls of emergency. This policy, the employee put it, isolates employees and brings one more burden to an already busy working week.

Another rule prohibits numerous uses of the restroom with reference to ‘time consumption’. Contact with other co-workers, which in most organisations can improve fellowship and team spirit, is just as limited.
Employees are only allowed to communicate via messaging apps or Microsoft Teams, rather than having one-on-one face-to-face conversations. The official justification for such a policy is to have a ‘chaotic-free environment’.
The employee’s post opens with a poignant plea: “Please make a reel on my current office environment." Their description of the workplace paints a stark picture: “Silent office. No talking even for a second. Jail is better. At least I can talk there, look around, or stand up if I want to."

The analogy proved relatable to many social media users and the post’s comment section soon filled with encouragement. A user expressed their frustration stating, “Name and shame these leeches who suck not just your health but your soul too."
Another person mentioned, “Cannot believe this is the sort of contracts that people actually have to agree to, just to be able to support the minimum requirements of life. The government will proudly present these organisations as “employment sources" whilst there is no governing body which regulates and checks the working conditions or the employment contracts."
Someone also noted, “This would be a first-day resignation from me."
