Kayla Kane, a 27-year-old social media content creator, doesn’t usually throw parties for herself. She often keeps birthdays low-key and forgets to commemorate major life events. But, following a recent date that marked the end of her year-long dry spell, Kane felt like she had something worth commemorating. The date went well, and Kane ended up having sex for the first time in over a year.

To commemorate the moment, Kane and her friends threw an “anti-celibacy" party. A video from the occasion went viral on Instagram, garnering several likes and comments from the social media users. The video featured a custom pink cake with a humorous message, “1 year celibacy," with a large “X" marked through it in frosting, symbolising the end of a year-long dry spell.

Her lighthearted approach to celebrating personal milestones resonated with many, encouraging them to acknowledge their own “minor victories" in life.

Kane reflected on her decision to throw an “anti-celibacy" party, saying, “I personally have just been trying to put myself out there and experience things, and that was worth celebrating," USA Today reported. “Something I love about this generation is just everybody is so unserious, and it brings so much more joy just back into little things and minor victories in life."

Her story begins with a date with a co-worker two years ago, which ended with both parties ghosting each other. However, fate intervened when the same guy reached out to her two weeks ago, inviting her to be his plus-one at a family wedding.

Kane saw this as an opportunity to recreate the plot of the 2005 rom-com The Wedding Date, where attending a wedding with a stranger led to romance for Amy Adams’ character.

Inspired by this, Kane decided to take a chance and accept the invitation, leading to this unexpected and celebratory outcome. The party, which was a last-minute gathering, focused on encouraging new experiences, open-mindedness and “just opening yourself up to saying yes to the world sometimes." The celebration not only focused on Kane, but her friends also shared their own romantic experiences.
