IPL 2025: Why Are R Ashwin And Devon Conway Not Playing Today's CSK Vs DC Match?
CSK dropped Ravichandran Ashwin and Devon Conway for their match against LSG.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have seemingly heard their biggest critics and dropped Ravichandran Ashwin from their playing 11 for Sunday’s clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium on Monday (April 14). They have also let go of New Zealand opener Devon Conway from the playing 11 for this match, bringing in youngster Shaik Rasheed and England pacer Jamie Overton for the duo.
Skipper MS Dhoni confirmed the two big changes at the toss, which he won and chose to bowl first. Ashwin was struggling for form, managing just five wickets in six matches at an average of 39.60 with an economy rate of 9.90. Conway’s snubbing seemed as much a form call as a tactical one: the left-hander had scores of 13, 69 and 12 since getting into the team against Delhi Capitals on April 5.

“We want to bowl first, there’s chances of dew here," Dhoni said at the toss. “The wicket gets better in the second innings. It’s important to set the right temperament. We haven’t been consistent with our batting. With the ball we have strong back strong. It’s important to have a positive mindset, play those big shots. It’s a matter of time. We have a couple of changes. Overton and Rasheed come in for Ashwin and Conway," he added.
LSG also made one change, bringing back Mitchell Marsh (who missed the last match due to personal reasons) for Himmat Singh.
“We would have bowled first," skipper Rishabh Pant said at the toss. “In Lucknow, it’s slower in the first innings, gets better gradually. The only thing we talked about CSK is that we don’t want to give them an opening, just need to give our 100%. We want to go out there and play good cricket. Only one change – Marsh comes back in for Himmat Singh."
