The deceased, identified as Malavika Maitra, was found burnt to death on her bed, in an incident that has left both investigators and residents puzzled. Adding to the intrigue, her son, Abhishek Maitra, has been missing since the incident, further fuelling speculation about the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
Local sources indicate that Malavika and her son, an employee of a private bank, had been living in a rented flat in Vidyasagar Colony. On the fateful afternoon, around 12:30 pm, residents noticed smoke billowing from the apartment. Alarmed, they rushed to the scene only to find the main entrance locked from the outside. The fire brigade, accompanied by police officials, forced their way into the house, only to uncover Malavika’s lifeless, burnt body on her bed, with a pillow covering her face.
