Panjab University Student Stabbed To Death During Violent Clash At Fest
Many Panjab University students held a protest against the police and PU authorities claiming that some outsiders allegedly attacked the students.

A 22-year-old student, among four students who were stabbed by some unidentified persons at a concert held at Panjab University’s South Campus, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, police said.
The incident took place on Friday night during a performance by Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma at the university’s Scitron Fest, when the quarrel between students groups turned violent.

The deceased has been identified as Aditya Thakur, a second-year student of computer science engineering at the University Institute of Engineering and Technology. Among the injured, two students have been identified as Aman and Aryan. One sustained a stab wound near the shoulder, while the other suffered severe injuries to his right thigh above the knee.
Students Held Protest
Meanwhile, many Panjab University students held a protest against the police and PU authorities claiming that some outsiders allegedly attacked the students.
Police said an FIR has been lodged in the matter and efforts were on to trace the assailants.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Dilbagh Singh said, “An FIR has been lodged in the matter against unidentified people… No one has been arrested yet."
ABVP Demands Justice
The ABVP has launched a protest demanding justice for the deceased student. Blaming the administration, the group demanded answers for the inaction and negligence.
“The brutal murder of Aditya Thakur during Scitron Fest is a direct consequence of the gross negligence of the Dean of Students Welfare (DSW) and Panjab University administration," the ABVP said.
What Happened On Concert Night?
As per India Today report, a large crowd of students gathered for the event at the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET).
As the fest was about to end and students began dispersing, tensions erupted between two groups which quickly escalated into violence. The confrontation created widespread panic and chaos, prompting students to flee in all directions.
A purported video surfacing on social media showed that a student was bleeding profusely and lying on the ground as he was stabbed in his thigh.
Thakur was to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, officials said.
The three other students were undergoing treatment at Government Multi Specialty Hospital in Chandigarh.
Vice-Chancellor Expresses Grief
Meanwhile, Panjab University vice-chancellor Professor Renu Vig expressed grief over the fatal stabbing of the student.
Describing Aditya (deceased student) as a bright and promising student, Vig said, "This is an immense loss to the Panjab University community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Aditya’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time."
PU Dean of Students Welfare Prof. Amit Chauhan expressed grief over the incident, saying, “We are sad about what has happened to one of our students. Police are investigating the matter."
He further informed that, as a mark of respect, all cultural functions, events, and activities at the university have been cancelled until further notice. However, academic programmes, events, and activities will continue as per the previous schedule.
The PU spokesperson informed that the university administration is in close contact with the police and Aditya’s family, ensuring all necessary support.
