Recently, it was reported that the much-loved Tamil romantic drama 96, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan, is officially set to receive a sequel. The 2018 film has earned cult status over the years, praised for its poignant storytelling and soulful performances.

At a recent award show, director C. Prem Kumar confirmed that a sequel to 96 is in the works and that the original cast will be returning. “I have written the story of 96. As for the cast, the actors who appeared in the first part will reprise their roles. There is no change in that," he said, without naming the lead pair specifically.

The original 96 followed the story of Ram and Jaanu, childhood sweethearts who reconnect after decades during a school reunion. The film’s strength lay in its gentle portrayal of unrequited love, nostalgia, and emotional restraint. It was lauded for its direction, music by Govind Vasantha, and the tender chemistry between the lead actors.

Alongside Vijay and Trisha, the film also featured standout performances from Gouri G Kishan, Aadithya Bhaskar, Devadarshini, Bagavathi Perumal, and Aadukalam Murugadoss.
