Actor and singer Tyler Hilton, best known for his role in One Tree Hill, fondly recalled meeting a 15-year-old Taylor Swift long before she became a global superstar. The 41-year-old, currently promoting his new children’s book, shared that he was impressed by her talent when she had just released Tim McGraw.

“That first record was so good to me," Tyler told Us Weekly. Little did he know, Taylor was a fan of his work too. He later discovered that the teenage singer had watched many of his videos on YouTube. Soon after, Tyler was invited to one of Taylor’s early performances at a small country bar in California. That night, the 15-year-old singer revealed that she had been performing his cover of Missing You on stage and even asked him to join her for a duet.

Sharing more anecdotes from that show, the 41-year-old revealed to the outlet that she “cornered" him right in the middle of the show, and a “very forward" Taylor said, “I didn’t want to ask you backstage ’cause I was afraid you’d say no, but would you be in my next music video?"

Tyler added, “That’s how I ended up in the ‘Teardrops On My Guitar’ music video. And after that, she was like, ‘Oh, I’m doing some shows, would you want to come open for me?’ And she just kept getting bigger and bigger."

The One Tree Hill star further shared that he kept in touch with Taylor even after her career took off, even recalling a time when he moved to Nashville and the Swifts had helped him out. “We became close, and then when I moved to Nashville, they let me live on their boat and live with them for a little while when I first moved to Nashville. They were just, like, the Swifts — like, my buds — and their little teenage daughter was a fan. And I was like, ‘Aw, that’s so sweet.’ And now she’s the biggest star in the world," he revealed.

During that time, Taylor would also play her new songs to Tyler in her bedroom, including White Horse from her second album. Tyler described her as a “princess, fairy, unicorn girl", adding, “She actually had her songs written in, like, a fluffy diary, and she is that nerd, you know what I mean? That’s what’s so sweet about her, and I think is responsible for her longevity — it’s not an act. She’s actually that much of a nerd, and it’s so endearing." Although Tyler Hilton knew that Taylor was talented, he admitted that he never thought she would achieve such widespread popularity.
