India’s spinners, yet again dictating the terms, won the trophy without losing a game, reflecting their dominance in the Champions Trophy, which they won back in 2002 (joint winners) and 2013.
It wasn’t a one-man show for sure since the spinners set it up by restricting New Zealand to a gettable 251/7, but Rohit gave a flying start, which was important on a slow track.
Later, Pandya and Rahul soaked in pressure, ensuring that the side stayed unbeaten. Amid strong speculation that it will be the end of the road for him, Rohit has answered back with an ICC title win.
When Rohit lost the ODI World Cup final in 2023 and lost his IPL leadership last year, the critics said that time was up for him, but he had then responded with the T20 World Cup trophy.
Having several match-winners in the team helps, and Rohit’s teammates didn’t let him down.
“I am not going to retire from this format. Going forward, please don’t spread rumours. There are no plans. Jo ho raha hain, woh chalta jayega (Whatever is happening will keep continuing)," Rohit said while speaking at the post-match press conference.
Indian batters were required to capitalise on the fine effort of the bowlers, and Rohit led from the front, slipping into his mighty version.
