The CR is set to launch the ‘Lucky Yatri Yojana’ next week to promote ticketed travel among suburban train commuters. While the daily prize is Rs 10,000, Rs 50,000 will be offered as a weekly bumper prize.
Are you one of those evading a ticket-checker (TC) on Mumbai Central Railway (CR) line even when you have the ticket just to save time or who throw away the ticket once you reach the station? Don’t do it the next time if you wish to win Rs 10,000.

While the daily prize is Rs 10,000, Rs 50,000 will be offered as a weekly bumper prize.
The scheme is expected to run for eight weeks and offer daily and weekly cash prizes to lucky passengers holding valid tickets or season passes.
According to the CR, the scheme will not add any extra burden on passengers. The initiative is sponsored by FCB Interface Communication Pvt Ltd.
THE PROCESS
- Ticket-checkers will randomly pick a passenger at stations.
- After verifying their travel credentials, they will be given the prize on the spot.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
- The selection process will be random.
- All those with valid tickets or season tickets travelling in any section (class) will be eligible.
CR’s DRIVE
In a record-breaking ticket-checking drive, Sudha Dwivedi, a Travelling Ticket Inspector (TTI) from the Mumbai Division, detected 202 cases of passengers traveling without or with irregular tickets on February 28, 2025.
This unprecedented crackdown resulted in a fine collection of Rs 55,210, setting a new milestone in suburban railway ticket inspections.
WHY THE INTIATIVE?
- The CR has an average daily ridership of 40 lakh.
- According to rough estimates, ticketless travel accounts for 20 per cent of the travellers, with 4,000 to 5,000 ticketless passengers caught daily in routine checks.
The CR has launched a series of initiatives for hassle-free booking of tickets. Apart from automatic ticket vending machines, it has also introduced mobile ticketing apps.
