As per the new Railways timetable, the Vande Bharat train will take three hours and 10 minutes to cover a distance of over 240 km between Jammu and Srinagar.

In a major development, the Indian Railways has notified a new timetable of one Vande Bharat and another two mail/express trains from Jammu and Srinagar, where a single-trip journey will take just over three hours.

As per the new timetable, the Vande Bharat train will take three hours and 10 minutes, while the other two express trains will cover the route in three hours and 20 minutes. A train operation from New Delhi to Srinagar is also set to be launched this month.

    The Vande Bharat will leave Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) at 8:10 am and reach Srinagar at 11:20 am, the timetable read. Similarly, the train will begin its return journey from Srinagar at 12:45 pm and arrive at SDVK at 3:55 pm.

    The Indian Railways has tweaked one Vande Bharat train and five other fully AC trains in the wake of the cold weather in the Valley. “The six trains, including a Vistadome, which are operating at present in the Valley will continue to run," a railway official told The Times of India.

    Meanwhile, the first direct train between the national capital and Srinagar is set to begin operations in January 2025, according to a report by The Indian Express. The Delhi-Srinagar train will be the third variant of the Vande Bharat train, reducing travel time to less than 13 hours over a distance of 800 km.

      Trials for the Vande Bharat sleeper train are underway, touching 180 kmph over the last few days. “The Vande Bharat sleeper train has achieved a peak speed of 180 km per hour in its multiple trials in the last three days. The trails will continue till this month’s end before this world-class travel for long-distance travel is made available to the rail commuters across the nation," the ministry said on Friday.

      With these successful trials, rail commuters can hope for world-class travel experience in long-distance trips like Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Delhi to Mumbai, Howrah to Chennai, and many other routes.
