Arjun Erigaisi’s historic achievement left the nation stunned at his brilliance with PM Narendra Modi echoing the amazement and joy of the millions of Indians by congratulating the young GM.

In a remarkable performance at the European Club Cup, Arjun defeated GM Dmitry Andreikin, pushing his rating to an impressive 2802.1 Elo. This achievement has catapulted Arjun to World No. 3 in live chess rankings, solidifying his position among the global elite.

With his win last night, Arjun became just the second Indian, right after the legendary Viswanathan Anand, and 16th player in chess history to cross the 2800-rating mark.

As for Arjun, he has been in excellent form in recent times. He secured an individual and team gold medal in the 2024 Chess Olympiad in Budapest. He also defeated France’s Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in Armageddon to clinch the 2024 WR Chess Masters Cup. It won him a cash prize of €20,000 and 27.84 Fide Circuit points.
