Eggs are a nutritious food that contains a range of vitamins and minerals and provide basic nutrition to our bodies. They are consumed in several forms, including boiled eggs, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, etc. Eggs can be a nutritious part of a healthy diet and are widely accessible and affordable. A situation has happened where an egg has been priced in the thousands because of its unique shape and size. A rare, perfectly spherical egg has been sold at an auction in the UK for £200 (Rs 21,000).

This one-in-a-billion egg was previously owned by Ed Pownell from Lambourn in Berkshire, purchasing it for £150 (Rs 16,163) after a few drinks at a pub. Pownell then donated the egg to the Iuventas Foundation, a charity providing mental health aid to the young in Oxfordshire. The foundation decided to conduct an auction to sell the egg again.

“We’re delighted and thrilled the egg sold as it means we can continue to do what we are doing," Roz Rapp from the foundation told BBC. “The money raised will help 13-25-year-olds struggling with their mental health. It will enable us to reach more youths who need support or are on long waiting lists," he further said.

The egg was originally found by a woman in a box from her local supermarket in Ayr, Scotland. Round eggs are believed to be a ‘one-in-a-billion’, as per Thomas Roddick Callan, the auction house where the egg was auctioned.

Earlier this year, Pownell was at a pub when he spotted the rare egg up for sale and decided to try his luck. He said, “I had a glass in the local down here in Lambourn and thought I’d pop in a bid." After securing the egg, he ensured it was preserved by having its contents (yolk and egg white) carefully removed, leaving the shell intact. “It’s quite fun…I think for £150 (Rs 16,163), it’s been money well spent," he added.
