ITO Nain Singh clarified that Raees’s PAN card was generated from the Income Tax Department’s server. Investigations revealed transactions worth Rs 7.79 crore linked to Raees’s PAN card during the financial year 2021–22, prompting the issuance of the notice.
The case also involves a man named Deepak Sharma. Statements from one or two firm operators in Punjab revealed that Sharma pays them Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 monthly to carry out certain tasks. It is suspected that Raees’s PAN card was misused during the Punjab Assembly elections.
Following the notice, Raees, through his Chartered Accountant (CA), informed the Income Tax Department officers. The officers emphasised that the PAN card was used in accordance with the rules and that Raees must file a response. They suggested that Raees should lodge a fraud and cheating complaint, which would help in tracking down the mastermind behind the scam.
The Income Tax Officer is currently undertaking legal proceedings. This action appears to be connected to an ongoing investigation led by the Income Tax Department in Patiala, Punjab.
