Women encounter numerous problems in the workplace, such as pay gaps, gender inequality, sexual harassment, and discrimination. These challenges affect their career growth, mental health, and well-being. Over time, several incidents on the Internet have highlighted such workplace ordeals. Now, a woman took to Reddit to share her horrifying experience in her office. The 28-year-old accused her team leader of calling her at night for taking a 20-minute toilet break. Yes, you read that correctly.

Elaborating further, the 28-year-old shared that she works for four hours in the office and spends the remaining five hours at home because women aren’t allowed to stay at work past 8:30 PM, besides the commute. In her Reddit post, the woman said, “I recently received a meeting invite and an email stating that my efforts aren’t enough, nor are my results. As a result, my probation is being extended, during which I need to meet my targets to get confirmed."

She went on to say, “I realised that my TL’s strategies weren’t working, so I started doing things my way. Just when I was about to achieve nearly 80% of my targets, I received a phone call while working from home and was on a washroom break at around 11:30 AM. After that, there was a chat message. When I finally saw the message, I also found an email CC’ing my manager, stating that I hadn’t followed my TL’s strategy and that I had ignored his chat for over 20 minutes."

Responding to the mail, the woman explained that she was in the washroom and that she had modified her strategies to achieve the expected results. Despite stating the reason, she received criticism, and she had to follow her TL’s strategies as she failed to achieve the desired results.

“I have already decided to leave, but I was determined to give it my best shot. However, there are people above me playing dirty games and treating female employees like crap just because they’re only logged in for four hours in the office," her post added.

“There’s excessive sexism, vulgarity, sometimes misbehaviour with other female employees subtly, and unprofessionalism too. I’d appreciate any advice that I need to do not to let this go even when I leave. I’d like to drag the wrong people down if I’m going down anyway," she urged.

Soon after the post gained traction online, Reddit users were quick to share their reactions. The share was filled with a sea of reactions, with some venting out their anger for such behaviour. Others tried sharing suggestions with the woman, and a few also posted similar stories about their workplaces.

“Keep everything recorded. With proofs and all. Register a complaint with POSH or ICC, whatever your organisation has. If they don’t give a satisfactory response, you can escalate the matter to the judiciary," suggested a user.

An individual posted, “HRs don’t do s**t anyway. You can name and shame them, but that won’t change anything. The only thing you can do here is get out as soon as possible. If there’s an exit interview, tell everything as it is. I don’t think anything will change after that, too. I’ve tried that, but my ex-colleagues told me that nothing changed. So I’m not sure how to advise you."

“Once you’re on their radar. It’s tough. Find a better job and leave," an account remarked.

Another added, “OP please drop the hint if not name and shame. Because this sounds so worrisome to work in an environment full of sexism."

“Complaint and put in a negative feedback stating harassment and then see the drama unfold; it’s too easy for you considering you have an upper hand here," said a user.
